The development of a website that improves the efficiency of the learning process

Client Profile

The Customer is a Dutch educational organization.

Challenge

The Customer required a powerful website to facilitate the management of students’ profiles and tasks and provide teachers with an extensive knowledge database. The website is purposed for students of ages ranging from 6 to 14 to help them read more quickly and effectively, expand their vocabulary and general knowledge.

SOLUTION

The SaM Solutions team has developed a robust educational website that incorporates a powerful teachers’ tool and a training interface for students. The website is based on Sitecore CMS to get the most of powerful content management capabilities.

The teachers’ tool is a password-protected environment that allows teachers to manage students’ profiles, their assignments and lessons. The tool provides a wide range of training materials as follows:

• Vocabulary exercises
• Guidance materials on various learning strategies: predicting the content, clarifying ambiguities, summing up, asking the right questions, paraphrasing and other
• Keys
• Writing assignments
• Magazines that include students’ assignments

Teachers can make up magazines by selecting assignments from the overview of students’ assignments and putting them into the magazine box. Also, they can download tests as PDF and print them.

The students’ training interface has a reading comprehension section that allows children to improve their reading skills through monitoring recent news and making up their own magazines.

Under the project, our team performed the following activities:

• The deployment and customization of Sitecore CMS
• The creation of the admin part and functionality based on XSLT and .NET modules
• The setup of instant data actualization based on AJAX technology
• The building of report generation capability in PDF and XLS formats
• The creation of XLS file reading capability that does not require previously installed Microsoft Office

The SaM Solutions team has created a powerful educational website that comprises two separate interfaces – for teachers and for students. It significantly facilitates the teaching and learning process and provides a wide range of training documents. Also, it helps students improve their reading technique and encourages self-education and self-discipline.
