Accounting Software-as-a-Service for Lexware

As its product portfolio expanded, Lexware sought a reliable technology partner to strengthen its software engineering capabilities. The company required additional expertise in C++ development to support the maintenance and evolution of its existing products while simultaneously exploring modern technologies for next-generation cloud-based solutions.

The primary objective was to build a groundbreaking web prototype, LexLive, an online accounting platform developed on ASP.NET. The project presented two critical engineering challenges:

• Replicating the desktop experience: Leveraging Web 2.0 and AJAX technologies to create a highly interactive graphical user interface (GUI) that was functionally and visually on par with traditional desktop software.
• Enterprise-grade security: Designing a highly secure, stable architecture capable of handling sensitive, confidential financial and personal user data with zero compromise on data integrity.

SaM Solutions collaborated with Lexware through a joint corporate research project to develop LexLive. Built entirely without requiring a local installation, the application allows users to securely manage their entire accounting and invoicing workflow from any browser, anywhere, at any time.

Designed with intuitive usability in mind, the platform accommodates users with no prior financial background through step-by-step wizards for complex forms.

Central navigation

The system utilizes a structured, color-coded workspace divided into five core functional modules:

• Service folder
• Item folder
• Invoice and more folder
• Customer folder
• Overview folder

These folders allow users to generate Quotes, Orders, Invoices, Item Lists and Credit Notes, as well as manage them all within LexLive. The platform supports both the anonymous operating mode and the authenticated/registered user session, where documents can be stored and backed by recommendations on financial standing improvements.

Functional features

• Document generation: Creation, printing, and saving of quotes, orders, invoices, and credit notes.
• Business intelligence and insights: Generation of business performance reports coupled with to-do lists to improve financial standing.
• Compliance-ready data export: Built-in DATEV interface to ensure data compliance and easy export formatting for German tax accountants.
• Customer and product management: Integrated databases to handle client profiles and itemized inventory lists.

The partnership resulted in a feature-rich, highly dynamic SaaS platform that combined the responsive look-and-feel of desktop software with the flexibility of the cloud. The interface handles complex information beautifully through rich data visualization elements like interactive charts and graphs.

By leveraging a distributed Scrum methodology, SaM Solutions ensured full transparency and agility throughout the lifecycle. The project was successfully delivered on time and within the allocated budget, establishing a reliable architectural foundation for Lexware’s future cloud portfolio.
