Big Data Hackathon
On the 30th of July the first Data Science Hackathon in Minsk was hosted by Imaguru. Hackathons are sprint-like events where software specialists collaborate intensively on software projects. It is usually done for educational, social purposes, although, in many cases, the goal is to create usable software. Datathon held in Minsk last week is a competition in which the most talented software development teams in the country compete in developing a data science solution to the business problem that real businesses have.

The team “Max and friends” got the first spot in the competition. The creator of the idea and business analytic for the team was our employee Maxim Hodar. Maxim’s team created a system that helps to target the marketing campaigns of bank’s products using unsupervised learning. The predictive model created by the team accurately eliminates 80% of clients of the bank that are will not buy the products and finds patterns in the payments. After that the accounts are separated into clusters that can be used to improve the efficiency of bank’s marketing campaigns. For example the system noticed that people who use iTunes often buy Uber rides, so bank can adjust their marketing strategies to the needs of the clients.
Congratulations to Max and his team on the victory!
