"Linux Vacation /Eastern Europe"
On May 25-28, the second international scientific conference "Linux Vacation/Eastern Europe" (LVEE 2006) was held not far from Minsk. The event combined professional communication and relaxation of Open Source and Linux enthusiasts. SaM Solutions v one of the leading IT-outsourcing companies, that has the biggest Linux team in Belarus v organized and sponsored the event.
Open Source devotees from Belarus, Eastern Europe and Sweden took part in the conference, as well as major international companies like Sun Microsystems, MTS, Raiffeisenbank representatives, participants of such famous free projects like Mozilla, Debian and ALT Linux and well-known Belarusian and Ukrainian Linux movement activists Dmitry Borodaenko and Mikhail Shigorin. The atmosphere of the event was friendly and students and young developers felt comfortable among real professionals.
The scientific conference, dedicated to topical issues of Open Source software was the central LVEE event. SaM Solutions- employee Vitaly Khilko in his paper "Automatic Build and Testing Systems" told about the creation of automatic system for build and support of Linux specialized distributions. There is no distribution today, that provides such functionality, and only several of them have started to work in this direction.
The author of the most interesting report of LVEE 2006 was presented with external DVD Burner with USB interface, so that he can burn Linux distributions for his friends on any computer.
Different activities were organized during LVEE 2006: panel discussion "Open Source Software and Mass Media", the discussion dedicated to Linux users- requirements, the participants were the first to see the Russian variant of the Swedish film "Code Linux" and everybody had the possibility to listen to the concert of Belarusian alternative music.
The event took place in "Praleska" sanatorium at the bank of the Minsk Sea. Prestorm weather conditions, lots of insects and other difficulties did not prevent Linux enthusiasts from having fun in the open.
